The hinge joint
In a hinge joint, the convex surface of one bone fits into the concave surface of another bone. Hinge joints allow movement in one plane only, changing the angle between the bones. The movements of a hinge joint are referred to as flexion, when the hinge bends inwards, and extension, when the hinge straightens.
