Module 2 - The musculoskeletal system

The ball and socket joint

Ball and socket joints allow movement in many directions around a central point. It allows all the movement types of a condyloid joint, and also rotation (movement around an axis).

This type of joint gives the greatest freedom of movement, but is also the most easily dislocated.

The shoulder and hip joints are ball and socket joints.
