Although the organs of the reproductive systems in the male and in the female are very different, their primary functions are identical:

• to continue the human race through procreation
• to secrete hormones that influence the development of sexual organs and characteristics.

In Module 9 you will have learned about the roll of gonads as endocrine glands, secreting hormones to influence the development of sexual organs and characteristics.

In this module we will focus mainly on learning about the anatomy of the male and female gonads.
