Module 7 – The digestive system

Overview of the digestive system

The semi-liquid food leaves the stomach at a regulated rate and enters the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.

In the duodenum, food is mixed with enzyme-rich secretions from the pancreas and the gut wall, and with bile from the liver.

Digestion of food continues throughout the rest of the small intestine. The nutrients produced are absorbed into the blood stream and carried to the liver.
