2. The pituitary gland
Situated in the brain, the pituitary acts together with the hypothalamus to regulate the activity of most of the other endocrine glands.
The pituitary gland is sometimes called the hypophyseal or master gland.
Substances produced and secreted by the pituitary can either act directly or indirectly on their target organs.
