The hand and feet bones have similar names - carpals and meta carpals in the wrist and hand, tarsals and metatarsals in the ankles and feet. So as to not get them confused, remember that hands come before feet as we look down the skeleton, in the same way that the letter `c` (for carpals) comes before `t`(for tarsals).

There are 7 tarsals (ankle bones) that form the rear of the foot.

Metatarsals make up the main part of the foot. There are 5, each of which join the phalanges of the feet.

Like the hands, there are 14 phalanges of the foot. There are two in the big toe (sometimes called the great toe) and three in the other toes.
