Module 3 - The Skin and subcutaneous tissue

1. An introduction to the skin

The skin covers the outer surface of the body.

Its appearance and thickness varies from one part of the body to another; it is thin, smooth and soft in some areas and thick, rough and furrowed in others.

For example, the skin of the eyelids is thin and translucent, while the skin on the soles of the feet is 10 to 20 times thicker.
