Cerebrospinal fluid
The subarachnoid space contains a watery fluid called the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that cushions and protects the delicate tissues of the brain and spinal cord.
In the brain, cerebrospinal fluid is contained in four irregularly shaped cavities.
These are called ventricles, and their individual names are:
- the left and right lateral ventricles,
- the third and fourth ventricles.
