Module 5 - The nervous system

1. An introduction to the nervous system

None of the body’s systems are capable of functioning alone. They are all interdependent and work together to maintain normal conditions within the body.

The nervous system can be considered to be the chief co-ordinator of the body.

It consists of the brain, the spinal cord and a network of specialised fibres - the nerves - that extend to virtually all parts of the body.
