There are three basic types of nerve cell:

• Sensory neurones carry impulses from sense organs to the central nervous system.
• Motor neurones carry impulses from the central nervous system to muscles and glands.
• Connector neurones link (or connect) sensory and motor neurones in the central nervous system.
